Mahakam River is the largest river in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, with a catchment area of approximately 77,100 km2. The catchment lies between 2˚N to 1˚S latitude and 113˚E to 118˚E longitude. The river originates in Cemaru from where it flows south-eastwards, meeting the River Kedang Pahu at the city of Muara Pahu. From there, the river flows eastward through the Mahakam lakes region, which is a flat tropical lowland area surrounded by peat land. Thirty shallow lakes are situated in this area, which are connected to the Mahakam through small channels. Downstream of the connection with the Semayang and Melintang lakes, the Mahakam meets three other main tributaries - the rivers Belayan, Kedang Kepala, and Kedang Rantau - and flows south-eastwards through the Mahakam delta distributaries, to the Makassar Strait

Itinerary
DAY 01. BALIKPAPAN – LOAJANAN – MAHAKAM RIVER.
Upon arrival at Sepinggan airport of Balikpapan meeting services and
proceed to house boat for mahakam river cruise . Meals and overnight
on boat.
DAY 02. MUARA MUNTAI – MANCONG – TANJUNG ISUY.
Breakfast on boat then visiting wooden village to observe the way of
the people life and continue by canoe over lake jempang and
beautiful of Ohong river on high water to reach Mancong village. On
arrival welcome ceremony will be performed by Dayak Banuaq tribe in
front of long house and then return to Tanjung Isuy. Meals and
overnight at Long house.
DAY 03. TANJUNG ISUY – BATU VILLAGE – LOA DERAS VILLAGE - MELAK.
Breakfast at Long house then return to Muara Muntai to onboard the
house boat and cruise up for Melak. Stop will be made at Batu
village to take a walk (1,5 hours) for observing the village, fields
and palm sugar home industry at Loa Deras. Meals and overnight on
boat.
DAY 04. MELAK – EHENG – KERSIK LUWAY.
Breakfast on boat then half day excursion by car for visiting old
communal long house at Eheng village and then to natural black
orchid forest and then return to house boat down river from Lekak
Kidau. Meals and overnight on boat.
DAY 05 : LEKAQ KIDAU – TENGGARONG – BALIKPAPAN.
After breakfast on boat then sight seeing the way of life of Kenyah
Dayak tribe then down to Tenggarong for sight seeing the Royal
Collection of the Kutai Kingdom at Museum (closed on friday, monday
and holiday), It’s the former palace of the Kutai kingdom then
proceeding to Balikpapan by land transfer to the hotel. Breakfast and
Lunch on boat dinner at restaurant overnight at hotel.
DAY 06 : HOTEL – AIRPORT.
Breakfast at hotel then transfer to the airport for your next
destination
