Waterfall Tebing Medan

Toba Lake Tours and Mount Sibayak Volcano Hike and Climbing.

Lake Toba (Danau Toba) is the largest volcanic lake in the world and is in Sumatra, Indonesia. Samosir island within the lake is the island within the island of Sumatra

Mount Sibayak is a small stratovolcano overlooking the town of Brastagi in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Although its last eruption was more than a century ago, geothermal activity in the form of steam vents and hot springs remains high on and around the volcano. The vents produce crystalline sulfur, which was mined on a small scale in the past. Seepage of sulfurous gases has also caused acidic discoloration of the small crater lake.

Sibayak is a term from the Karo Batak language referring to a founding community. It is relatively easy to climb and has been a tourist attraction since colonial times.

Referring to the most question on how hard the Mount Sibayak hike and Is it safe? below the summary on the questions:

Yes its safe to climb Sibayak and the whole trip should take 2 to 4 hours to the top (2,212 meters). The final approach and the crater itself are like an amateur volcano fan's dream. While there is no lava, there are fumaroles, creeks with simmering greenish water and a staggering crater sitting among the clouds. Discuss with your guide in the field: you can either go back the way you came or find the trail on the other side of the crater that will take you down through the jungle.

Suggestion: Visit the local hot springs. On the other side of Mount Sibayak is a small village featuring a pair of spas taking advantage of the local hot mineral springs. Bring your swim trunks and relax after the hike with a dip in the waters.
