South Borneo Loksado Trekking

Nice villages visit along the way from Loksado to Haratai. Can mingle with locals who take doggies and piggies as pets. Locals addressed piggies as gunik. And greenery forests during trekking. Tropical and rainforest vegetations along the way.

Loksado is a small town about 5 hours ride from Banjarmasin, the capital city of South Kalimantan. Or about 3 hours from Marabahan.

From Loksado, travelers can start trekking to Meratus Mountaineous Range with itinerary Loksado-Malaris-Haratai. With additional attraction bamboo rafting in Amandit river.

Trekking from Loksado to Haratai is nice, especially if the time close to sunset and evening. Passes wooden bridge and forests and small rivers and several villages. And the evening sky showing thousand stars that feel so close to the earth.

And in Haratai, you can stay with locals. If you're lucky, you can witnessing the locals who are still have Hinduism beliefs (called Hindu Kaharingan) arrange a ceremony called Jujuran. A pre-wedding procession where both sides of bride and groom doing Beruji in Indonesian so called pantun or poem in English] for a dealing about expenses should be paid for the wedding ceremony.

This Jujuran can take all night long! With intermission traditional music and song using drums in trance conditions. This event will be held in a communal house, which connected with several families' houses from the same ancestor.

Cempaka is a small city, 5 km from Martapura, Banjar regency, South Kalimantan province. Well known as diamond mining, Cempaka are located along rivers from Riam Kanan lake and the Barito, Murung, and Negara rivers, flowing from the Pegunungan Meratus mountain range.

It is an old site of traditional diamond mine, using very simple equipment. The villages of Lukaas and Sungai Tiung in Cempaka, are a primary source for diamonds in South Kalimantan. People can be seen panning for diamonds at villages in the Cempaka district. Panners usually work in groups.
The digging is a collective work by a group, usually consisting of one family and its close relatives.

Each group consists of the 16 to 18 people. The oldest person is usually named the head of the group. Before starting to work, they ask for guidance from the spirit of the village so they will be led to the richest mining grounds.

Diamonds are cut and polished in the Diamond Market of Martapura in Martapura, 40 km from Banjarmasin, its province capital. Such places are always better known than the sites where the diamonds are found. That is why Martapura is also known as Diamond Town. There are several well known experts in diamond processing in Martapura. South Kalimantan diamonds are classified as black diamonds, colorless diamonds, petrous lower quality yellow diamonds, and pink diamonds with high brilliance

In 1965, a 166 carat pink diamond known as the Trisakti Diamond was found in the Cempaka region. The Indonesian Government had the rough stone cut by Joseph Isaac Asscher in Amsterdam, the same year.

Martapura's diamond mining has own and long history. Historical note mention diamond mining have been started for hundreds years ago. Dating back in the 15th through 19th centuries, the diamonds from Landak, in Borneo (Kalimantan) were particularly prized for their brilliance and variety of colors.

At that time, Borneo was part of the Dutch colonial empire (Dutch East Indies) from the 1600s to the early 1800s, when it came under the control of theBritish North Borneo Company. During the 18th century, the Dutch produced approximately 50,000 carats of rough Borneo diamonds annually.

Muara Kuin on the Barito River, Banjarmasin is one of two floating markets in this planet. To experience Banjarmasin you must take to the river, either by “klotok“ (river bus), or a speedboat for longer trips. At this market we can buy many variuos fruits and vegetable. One of the fabulous character of this river tourism market is “jukung” or “klotok”. Jukung is the name of tradisional boat in Banjarmasin.

During five hundred years, the Kuin floating market being the favorite place in Banjarmasin. In 1526, Sultan Suryansah build the capital city of his kingdom at the side of the river. It was an old Kuin. However, Kuin have a strong historical relationship to the birth of Banjarmasin city. At this place, the live of Banjarmasin trading began.

T o have any exotic floating market experiences, we can also sail the river into Lok Bintan, another floating market in South Kalimantan. The market float at the Martapura River, Kabupeten Banjar. But, the Kuin market is most famous than Lok Bintan because of it more far location from Banjarmasin.

Day 01 : ARRIVAL IN BANJARMASIN
Meet at Banjarmasin airport then directly transfer to Swiss bell for your accommodation. Free at your own leisure. No meals provided.

Day 02 : FLOATING MARKET - TRADITIONAL DIAMOND MINING – LOKSADO
Early in the morning leave to floating market to watch people trading boat to boat, then proceed to Cempaka village to see traditional diamond mining and polshing. Next, visiting Pandak Daun village to see water buffaloes return to the stall. Afterwards, leaving to Loksado. Overnight on lodge.(B, L)

Day 03 : LODGE - PAMANDIAN ANGGANG WATER FALL
Trekking to Loksado crossing secondary forest, then continue trekking to Pamandian Anggang waterfall crossing forest, hanging bridges, longhouses and farms. Overnight in bivouac.(B, L, D)

Day 04 : WATERFALL - KADAYANG VIRGIN FOREST
Trekking to Waja village passing waterfall, farms, rivers. Next continue trekking to Masiban virgin forest crossing rivers, suspended bamboo bridges, longhouses, forests and hills. Overnight in monitoring tower at the virgin forest. (B, L, D)

Day 05 : VIRGIN FOREST-LOKSADO
Exploring the forest, then proceed to Kadayang village, then return to Loksado through different trail. Afterwards, proceed to lodge by bamboo rafting for 2,5 hours approximately.(B, L, D)

Day 06 : BAMBOO RAFTING – BANJARMASIN
Get the bamboo rafting crossing Mount Kantawan and tropical forest on riverside, the private car will be waiting on the downstream to transfer to Banjarmasin. Overnight in hotel (B, L)

Day 07 : DEPARTURE
Transfer to airport for next destination. (B)
